Spreading the Word of GOD

For anyone, (and that means all of us), wanting to get the Gospel into the home, particularly of friends and family, what better way than to give a pocket book size New Testament with psalms. These are available from Gideon International to Friends of the Gideon’s and they cost just £20 for 10 copies. They are beautifully bound in faux red leather with a gilt edge, and have a help page inside, with scriptures relevant to a specific problem, daily reading pages etc. At the back there is a page to sign if that person has made a commitment to follow Jesus.

To be a Friend doesn’t cost you anything, just sign up and their magazine will be sent to you twice a year. I have given copies of the NT to friends, neighbours and I have wrapped a copy up as an additional Christmas present to members of our family. You have to be discerning over this. Friends who have a church background are the easiest to give to, but all are gratefully received. You will find that these books will not be thrown away and even if they are not read immediately but put on a shelf or in a drawer, one day the Holy Spirit will draw them back to reading them and we pray that they will be saved. I have considered also giving to likely tradesmen or anyone in need, for as we know the Lord Jesus does not want any to perish, but to have eternal life. I have given away nearly 20 copies already, and I am about to order my next 10 copies.  If you don’t know about the Gideon’s, a member will only be too willing to come to the Church to speak about their work. So have a word with Nick.

This week I bought “Dr Bronner’s Peppermint All-one toothpaste”. It is fluoride free and is 70% organic. From the packaging I learnt that Emanuel Bronner is a third generation Jewish soap maker belonging to a family of soap makers since 1858. On the toothpaste box I was surprised to find this:

  • God has not promised skies always blue, flower-strewn pathways all our lives through!
  • God has not promised sun without rain, joy without sorrow, peace without pain!
  • But God has promised strength for the day, rest for the labourer, light on the way!
  • Grace for the trial, help from above, undying sympathy, unfailing love.
